Melissa J. Pytel Prior to joining Pauly, DeVries Smith & Deffner, LLC, Melissa was Senior Patent Counsel for Human Genome Sciences, Inc. where she was responsible for managing their extensive patent portfolio. She has broad experience in patent prosecution, infringement counseling and development of corporate intellectual property strategies. Her practice includes U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, portfolio management, freedom to operate analyses, including non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and design around assistance. She has experience in patent oppositions in both Europe and Australia. As an in-house attorney, Melissa gained insights about and developed strategies for aligning patent rights with business objectives. She has experience in helping clients identify and protect their intellectual assets, along with helping develop patent procurement and enforcement strategies throughout a product development lifecycle, including products in the research and development stages, through pre-clinical and clinical products. She has experience developing and managing invention disclosure processes and developing strategies for in-licensing and out-licensing of intellectual property.
